Sample Itinerary

The foundation of America's history can be found in Geary County. From early settlers to the modern military, you will discover why some say Geary County puts the "story" in Kansas History.

We'll begin with a historic driving tour of Fort Riley, established in 1852 and the current home of the 1st Infantry Division, better known as the Big Red One. After the driving tour, we'll stop at the U.S. Cavalry and 1st Infantry Division Museums and take an easy stroll to the Custer House, and see how General George Armstrong Custer lived.

We'll head back to Junction City for lunch. We'll stop next at the Geary County Historical Museum and Starke House. Galleries in the museum feature a one-room school house, train depot, main street and grandma's kitchen. At the Starke House, you will step back in time to the 1930s in this "period house museum."

Board the bus and head to the Spring Valley Heritage Site. We'll take a stroll through a one room log cabin, see how the classroom looked in an old school house, and see the 1st Lutheran Parish in Kansas, better known as Wetzel's Log Cabin.
